Brian Churney

Audit Supervisor, Public Safety

As Audit Supervisor for Public Safety, Brian is responsible for supervising teams of auditors, investigators and data analysts in preparing and publishing audits focused on the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services, the D.C. Department of Corrections, and other public safety agencies.

Before joining ODCA in 2023, Brian was the Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Inspections and Evaluations in the D.C. Office of the Inspector General.

Previously, Brian worked as an International Trade and Customs attorney at Kelley Drye & Warren in Washington, D.C., and as middle school math teacher and high school baseball coach in Mobile, Ala.

Brian earned a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies from the University of Notre Dame, a Masters in education from the University of Notre Dame, and a Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School.

When not working to improve the economy, efficiency, and accountability of the District government, Brian enjoys coaching his sons’ baseball teams, finding hidden gem restaurants, and impatiently waiting for Notre Dame or the Pittsburgh Pirates to finally win another championship.
